Description

Ernest Schwiebert's Trout, published in two volumes by E. P. Dutton in 1978, runs to some 1,745 pages making it one of the most comprehensive works on fly fishing for trout. Schwiebert, an architect by profession and the author of Matching the Hatch, Salmon of the World and Nymphs, illustrated the work himself. It moves from the history of fly fishing to the American trout and grayling species, their physiology, habitat and behavior, and on to tackle, casting, wading, and the strategies and tactics of the stream, with an extensive section on rods and rod building. Reviewing it in 1979, Sports Illustrated praised it as a work of prodigious research. Arnold Gingrich called Schwiebert the leading angling author of his time.
