Description

Fisherman's Luck and Some Other Uncertain Things is Henry van Dyke's much-loved collection of angling essays, first published by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York in October 1899. Van Dyke (1852-1933) was a Presbyterian clergyman, a professor of English literature at Princeton and later U.S. minister to the Netherlands, and he brought a preacher's warmth and a scholar's ear to the water. Following his earlier Little Rivers, these twelve chapters wander from trout streams and campfires to a Norwegian honeymoon, with pieces such as "The Thrilling Moment," "A Lazy, Idle Brook" and "Fishing in Books." Reflective, gently humorous and full of quiet faith, it is a lovely companion for an evening by the fire.
