The Grand Cascapedia River - A History (Volume 1) by Hoagy B. Carmichael

Hoagy B. Carmichael's The Grand Cascapedia River: A History is a two-volume account of one of Quebec's great Atlantic salmon rivers. Volume One, published by Meadow Run Press in 2006 with an introduction by Charles B. Wood and illustrations by Robert H. Seaman, follows the river from the 1840s, when sportsmen discovered its salmon, through the era when its fishing rights belonged to Canada's Governors General, to the American-run 'Old Club', ending in the mid-1930s. Volume Two covers the river's eight camps and their anglers up to the present, along with log drives, commercial and Mi'kmaq netting, and river management. Carmichael, an angler who began fishing the Cascapedia in the mid-1980s, built the history from family archives, letters, journals, photographs and interviews.
