Description

A Trout and Salmon Fisherman for Seventy-Five Years is Edward Ringwood Hewitt's late-life look back over a lifetime on the water, first published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1948. Hewitt (1866 to 1957) was a chemist, inventor and engineer who in 1918 bought some four and a half miles of the Neversink River in the Catskills, where he built a hatchery and laboratory and tested his flies. He became an authority on stream improvement, held patents including a felt-soled wading shoe and the bivisible trout fly, and is credited with pioneering a small one-handed rod for salmon. This book follows earlier titles such as Secrets of the Salmon and Telling on the Trout, and remains a key Catskill voice for any angling library.
