From the beginning, the name Urban Angler suited the store perfectly; a new home for the many avid fly anglers of New York City. The store was founded in 1988 by the Jon and Steve Fisher, passionate fly fishers who felt that New York anglers desired and deserved an alternative to Orvis. Word spread quickly that a new fly shop was opening and local anglers were immediately supportive. Urban Angler sold its first rods directly from boxes as they arrived from manufacturers. We knew instantly that fly fishing was alive and well in New York City. Urban Angler grew consistently over the years and has become one of the largest fly fishing retail shops in the world.  Excellent product knowledge, a large inventory, and a commitment to stellar customer  service has allowed Urban Angler to earn the trust of the fly fishers, near and far. At any given moment there are likely to be anglers in the store getting outfitted for destinations ranging from trout fishing in the Catskills to trevally fishing in the Indian Ocean. We are a specialty retail store, a place where anglers can walk in the door and expect to find both the equipment and knowledge needed to prepare for any destination worldwide.
